Kiruna Wedge Bolt Introduction
The kiruna wedge bolt is a rock reinforcement elementcomprised of a smooth steel bar with a number ofdeformed sections that act as anchor pointsalong its length.The collar end is threaded and is desianed to be used with a faceplate,sphericalwasher and a nut that fastens thebolt. The bolt is fully encapsulated in a boreholebut it is only constrained to the grout or resin along the anchor points.This allows the smooth sections of the bolt, between the anchor ocations,to deform without constraints andabsorb energy as the rock mass dilates.
How to work
After
drilling a hole and inserting steel wedge into the cross slot,drive and
rotate the thread bar to ensure the wedge contacts with the surface of
hole end.Impact the external end of the bar by drilling machine,the
steel wedge will expand the slot,which leads to an expansion friction
strength between rock and bolt to get a good point anchorage.
